The Downtown San Diego Central Library, located in the East Village at 330 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA 92101, had it’s Grand Opening September 28, 2013. Map The completed project is definitely worth visiting. Architect Rob Wellington Quigley and Tucker Sadler Architects designed this beautiful civic structure. For anyone who has an extra hour or so to spare, the library tour is available to the public and can be scheduled online.
The tour meets in the courtyard near The Living Room Cafe.
Each brick represents a sponsor who made a donation to make the building of the library possible.
The entry way is immense and open featuring a large archway.
There’s artwork on display near the elevators on the first floor.
The windows on the first floor were designed to look like open books.
The Sanford Children’s Library features child-sized computers and Dr. Seuss artwork.
The Rare Books collection on the 9th floor is full of treasures.
The building dome was designed to be like an open mind.
The Innovation Lab features 3D printers available to the public.
The Pauline Foster Teen Center on the second floor provides a haven for teens.
